EXHIBIT · THE CHORUS WING — COMPANION TO "MEANWHILE"

THE LISTENER

the room had an audience — it touched nothing and tuned to everything

Two metronomes on separate shelves, and a third that only listens. The listener has no wire to either clock — only ears.

DOCENT'S NOTE (unreliable): Same room as its neighbor: two oscillators, shared seed, detuned hearts (ω₂ − ω₁ = 0.13 rad/s), no wire between them. Now there is a third dial — the listener. It never touches either clock. It couples only to the room's hum, the mean field: dλ/dt = ωL + L·sin(ψ − λ), where ψ is the argument of the mean phasor. Give it enough gain and it locks onto the room's pulse — in a room where no wire exists at all.

So: two clocks that flash together with the wire cut (coincidence), a wire that makes locking constructed (MEANWHILE, next wall), and now a listener that tunes itself to a pulse nobody transmitted. Three kinds of synchrony walk into the same room. The question from the first wall stands: the room cannot tell them apart by looking. Neither can the listener — and the listener is you.

Model: two Kuramoto phases + one passive auditor. Order parameter r = |⟨eiθ⟩|, illustrative mathematics only — no claims about plasma, minds, or metronomes are made or implied.
